Everyone always said such nice things about Mark Sanford, when he was firing in shots with that quick release for the University of Washington. They were so complimentary when he averaged 16.5 points a game, made the All-Pac-10 team as a sophomore, and became one of half a dozen UW basketball players ever to score 35-plus points in a game more than once.
But then he announced he was submitting his name for the NBA draft last spring. And the rejection was not only decisive, it was derisive.
