While touting breast-feeding to nurture children, La Leche League International also nurtures parents.
"I grew up in this," said leader Mamie Schmitt, who explained that her mother, Faith Ewald, began the Villa Park branch of La Leche in 1974.
Schmitt, the sixth child in her family, said she always heard her mom talk about the benefits of breast-feeding and how it's a wonderfully natural part of life. But it wasn't until Schmitt became a mother herself that the full impact of La Leche hit home.
