I. Introduction
In 1948 a young and recent Chicago Ph.D. in economics by the name of Don Patinkin immigrated to Israel and accepted a position as a professor of economics in the faculty of social sciences at the Hebrew University. At the time the HU had a small number of economics teachers with a curriculum that followed mostly the continental (German) tradition of concentration on descriptive history and geographical emphasis.
