INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Pork producers are going on the offense against a perception, but an offense that is nevertheless very important in marketing pork in the domestic, and especially in the export, markets.
In an announcement at the World Pork Expo here, the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) said pork producers can now receive certification in producing trichinae-free pork by participating in an industry Trichinae Herd Certification Program, a checkoff-funded, pre-harvest pork safety program providing documentation of farm management practices that minimize exposure of swine to the trichinae parasite, Trichinella spiralis.
