Times were tough for Jere Bradwell. He had dropped out of college, closed down a sagging crafts business in Tennessee, joined a business brokerage in West Palm Beach, then resigned from the lackluster business of concrete construction.
Nearly broke and starving for success in the creative end of business, Bradwell moved to Tampa in 1980 with a roommate named Vaughn Atkins. Using their last $200 or so, they bought a few crafts from Bradwell's former vendors in Tennessee and set up a stand in a local flea market.
