The more-than-white world of Canada's Arctic

Remote as it seems, the Canadian Arctic is easy to reach, comfortable--dress for it, and you need never be cold--and graced with warm native peoples, fantastic wildlife, affordable art, and a landscape whose colors go far beyond white-on-white.

July and August are good times to run rivers, fish, bird-watch, or enjoy tundra wildflowers. But other months offer different pleasures, sans bugs.

Polar bear-watching is best in spring and fall, as are snowmobiling and dogsledding. And Arctic culture--from carving to dancing and singing--is active all year.
