Aug. 23--Stanford University Hospital will receive $24 million to study new ways of fighting heart disease, the No. 1 killer of Americans.
The grant, announced Tuesday, will establish the Donald W. Reynolds Cardiovascular Clinical Research Center, which will study the genetic roots of atherosclerosis, a common form of heart disease caused by cholesterol buildup in the arteries.
Studies will focus on finding the genes involved in heart disease, and then using them to design targeted prevention and treatments.
