MIAMI _ It's never easy backing up a star. Following one isn't exactly enviable, either.
When the University of Miami kicks off its football season against McNeese State at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Orange Bowl, it will be No. 86 lining up as tight end, not the familiar No. 88 that UM fans had grown to appreciate. All-American Bubba Franks (88), now with the Green Bay Packers, will no longer be there to run down the field with his large, lumbering strides and stretch out his long arms to suck up footballs like a vacuum cleaner.
