The grassroots movement in "green" home building practices is poised to reach an important milestone early next month. A group representing a diverse set of interests--the U.S. Green Building Council--is expected to complete an alpha version of a rating system for home building designed to bring consistency and greater meaning to the term "built green."
The goal, says Steven Winter, chairman of the USGBC, is to develop a certification system that accredits builders and the homes they build for various levels of energy efficiency and environmental design.
