Recent years have seen a new and significant re-evaluation of the late medieval genre of remaniements en prose of the chansons de geste. This is the latest of a number of such texts to be edited for the first time. We are presented with a critical edition based on the six printed texts which pre-date 1550, a pragmatic decision having been made to exclude the later sixteenth-century copies.
