Storage facilities in western Canada are poised to expand if their services are needed to fill new export pipeline capacity. With Canadian producers struggling, new pipelines such as Northern Border Pipeline and Alliance might turn to storage fields for natural gas.
Northern Border completed its 700 million cfd Alberta-to-Chicago project in December and the Alliance consortium aims to finish its 1.325 billion cfd project in time for the 2000 heating season.
