Besides messin' around in boats and boatyards for much of his life, Rick Johnson has worked for nine years as a fire fighter, putting in much of that time with the Rockland, Maine, Fire Department. He is also a fire control instructor and has participated in many firefighting demonstrations for both land-based and marine groups. Here are some of Rick's potentially life-saving tips for fighting fires onboard:
* Tip: When you are fighting a fire fueled by a flammable liquid such as diesel, gasoline or alcohol. Don't, repeat, don't use water to attempt to put it out.
