Fire of undetermined origin destroyed a portion of the Farmer's Cooperative, a retail feed and farm supply outlet in Harrison, Ark., July 27, causing a large monetary loss and releasing toxic chemicals into nearby Crooked Creek that resulted in the death of thousands of fish.
Robert Howard, manager of the cooperative, said the fire destroyed the firm's service center, which housed computers, a retail sales, area, animal health supplies, clothing, pet foods, tack items and insecticides. He estimated the loss of inventory at approximately $200,000. An estimate of the total loss was not given.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
