Article: Oil companies call for Clean Air Act deferment.(Business)

The oil companies, both the major and new players, have taken a united stand as they push for the deferment of the second and final phase of the reduction of aromatics and benzene contents of unleaded gasoline, and the sulfur content in diesel products, as mandated by the Clean Air Act.

The more stringent requirements for these components of petroleum products are due for implementation in 2003, but the oil companies claimed they cannot sink in additional investment to meet these emission standards.
