Bridgestone Corp. and Groupe Michelin finished fiscal 1999 in a virtual dead heat in their claim as the world's largest tire maker, after years of leapfrogging past each other for the title. Goodyear finished third in the Rubber & Plastics News annual Global Tire Rankings, based on tire-derived revenue. The company didn't move up despite its purchase of the Dunlop North American and European tire activities, even if a pro-forma full-year accounting is considered. If the Dunlop acquisition is consolidated on a full-year basis, Goodyear's direct tire-related sales are $13.2 billion.
