SEOUL, Sept 7 Asia Pulse - For the first time since a record has been kept, the number of registered domain names in Korea decreased in August, while the rate of growth in Internet users slowed, according to the Korea Network Information Center (KRNIC).

The number of ".kr" domain names registered to KRNIC was 493,060 at the end of August, down 1,000 from the previous month's 494,074 mainly because KRNIC deleted domain names whose maintenance commissions were not paid from Aug. 4.

In August, 18,294 domain names were cancelled, and as much as 73 percent of the cancelled domain names ended with ".pe.kr," domains for personal use.
