Sep. 6--It's unlikely that Fresno State will be able to finish a financing package and begin construction this year for the $100 million-plus, on-campus Save Mart Center.
And there are doubts as to whether a "fast track" building schedule would allow the proposed 13-story, 16,000-seat arena to be ready for the 2002 Bulldogs men's basketball season as has been envisioned.
"It takes time to raise this amount of money privately," said Deborah Adishian-Astone, event center coordinator. "This is the culminating year. We're wrapping this up. ... Nothing's been derailed."
