LOS ANGELES, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ --
Ten of the region's 13 trauma centers face financial pressures that could lead to closures throughout Los Angeles County. Collectively, the 10 not-for-profit, private hospitals that provide trauma services lose approximately $28 million a year and are having trouble getting specialty trained doctors to provide coverage because of the ever-increasing number of uninsured patients (between 30 and 45 percent) that need this high-cost medical care.
To determine the extent of this crisis and what can be done about it, the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Commission will hold a public hearing on Monday, ...
