Pharmacologic growth hormone (GH) therapy for HIV associated wasting affects some adrenal gland functions, researchers in the United States reported.
"Recombinant human GH treatment increases lean body mass, reduces fat mass, and improves functional status in patients with HIV associated wasting," reported Joan C. Lo and colleagues from the University of California, and Cedars Sinai Medical Center, California. "However, the effects of pharmacologic GH therapy on adrenal and gonadal steroids have not been well characterized in this population."
