DNA immunization with major histocompatibility complex (MHC)-encoding vectors induced specific immune responses in macaque model of HIV, researchers in Canada reported.
"In simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) models, immunization of macaques with uninfected human cells or human MHC proteins can induce xenogeneic immune responses which can protect the animals from subsequent SIV challenges," stated C.S. Delacruz and colleagues, University of Toronto, Canada. "These studies suggest that the induction of anti-MHC immune responses can be a viable vaccine strategy against HIV-1."
