Sep. 8--WASHINGTON--Lodi vintner David Lucas would love to sell his wines directly to New York residents, but he's not too keen on breaking the law.
But now, a federal judge has given the boutique winery owner and others like him more reason to hope they can eventually exploit the Internet's potential for expanding direct sales and cutting out middlemen.
In a closely watched lawsuit filed on Lucas' behalf by a Washington interest group, U.S. District Judge Richard Berman agreed this week to let a legal challenge proceed against New York's ban on direct interstate wine sales.
