FOLLOWING a three-month consultation exercise - which ended on April 28 - provision is to be made so that farmers can set the same land aside for a period of five years. This will be known as Multiannual Set-aside.
Farmers who take advantage of the new scheme will be guaranteed that the payment in Euros each year
will not be lower than the rate in the first year.
Under the new scheme:
farmers who currently set aside up to 100 per cent of their land (eg, for energy crops) each year will be able to do so for five years at a time;
