Sep. 10--USING THE NET FOR A FRESHER CUP OF COFFEE: More changes to our everyday lives are brewing thanks to Silicon Valley technology. Microprocessors, lasers and soon, the Internet, are enabling us to make unusually fresh, delicious coffee in our own homes.
As most coffee drinkers know, coffee beans, shipped here green from the tropics, lose much of their taste and aroma in the days after they're roasted. Nonetheless, we usually buy coffee that was roasted weeks, if not months, ago and then shipped to our supermarket as beans in bags or as ground coffee in bottles or vacuum-packed cans.
