Indoor air can be a serious health hazard, yet managing the risks can be easy and inexpensive. So says healthy homes advocate Joseph Laquatra, co-author of a consumer education program that has reached more individuals than any other national indoor air quality effort.

In the late 1980s radon made the headlines as a serious health threat. Before that people gave little thought to the air inside their homes, save as transport for cooking odors (good and bad) and condensation on windowpanes. It didn't occur to them that indoor air could set off their children's asthma attacks let alone silently tamper with the cells inside their lungs while they slept.
