Since 1958, the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences Inc. (The Recording Academy), Santa Monica, Calif., has honored achievement in recorded music with the presentation of the Grammy Award. The Grammy is a peer honor, awarded annually, by and to artists and technical professionals for artistic or technical achievement, not for sales or chart positions.
For six months of the year, John Billings handcrafts each and every Grammy Award. John, the owner of Billings Artworks, Ridgway, Colo., has been making Grammys since the late 1970s. Prior to that, he apprenticed under the watchful eye of award pioneer Bob Graves.
