THE secretary for metropolitan transport with the state of Sao Paulo has produced a long-term investment plan for the Sao Paulo area. The plan envisages total investment of Reais 30.3 billion ($US 16.6 billion) up to 2020, of which 80% would be for rail.
The cornerstone of the plan is the construction of 289km of metro or light rail lines, plus improvements to existing lines. This would cost Reais 21.82 billion.
Construction of airport rail links totalling 44km costing Reais 880 million is envisaged. Reais 440 million would be invested in the modernisation of existing lines.
