By a vote of 220-203, the United States House of Representatives on June 8 rejected an amendment offered by Jim Traficant, D-Ohio, that would have eliminated efforts to stop the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's proposed ergonomics rule.
The June 8 vote was part of the Appropriations Committee markup of the Fiscal Year 2001 Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations Bill.
As a result, the ergonomics "defunding" amendment, originally introduced by Anne Northup, R-Ky., on May 24, remains viable. The Northup amendment, if it remains in the final appropriations bill, would deny OSHA funding to implement its proposed ergonomics rule and ...
