Sep. 12--The headlines for MP3.com look bad.
But the future for MP3 technology -- which stores music in a digitized format -- looks much brighter.
Last week, online music company MP3.com got smacked with a potentially disastrous damage judgment for failing to provide copyright protections.
The MP3 technology itself, though, has home uses that don't raise copyright issues. That leaves the door open for Escient Technologies -- and its competitors -- to develop consumer-electronics products that include MP3.
