Alongside music by Busoni, Varese, Weill and Gerald Barry, Thomas Ades will tomorrow night conduct Birmingham Contemporary Music Group in the premiere of a piece by 23-year-old Peter Dowling.
The recent Birmingham University graduate is the first beneficiary of a student competition run jointly by the group and the university's music department. The Harrison/Hoyland Composition Award, named after the university's resident composers Jonty Harrison and Vic Hoyland, will become a regular feature of future autumn programmes.
