The tone of the 2000 U.S. Senate race in Minnesota will be set Monday, September 18, as the candidates from the Republican, DFL, and Independence parties face off in their first debate, sponsored by the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce. Incumbent Republican Senator Rod Grams, DFL candidate Mark Dayton, and Independence candidate James Gibson have accepted the Chamber's invitation to debate at the Metropolitan in Golden Valley. The debate will be broadcast statewide on Minnesota Public Radio from 11:00 a.m. to noon and hosted by MPR's Gary Eichten. It will be repeated at 9:00 p.m. on all MPR stations.
