National Express, the UK bus and rail group, has joined KLM and Nederlandse Spoorwegen, the Dutch national rail company, to bid to build a high-speed rail line between Amsterdam and Brussels.
National Express is likely to face competition from Arriva, another UK bus and rail company, which has teamed up with Deutsche Bahn, the German national rail company, to operate the line.
KLM and Nederlandse Spoorwegen are understood to have approached National Express because of the company's expertise in rail bids.
