"For one hundred years," the introduction begins, "the Boston Red Sox have been ... by far the most interesting franchise in the history of the game."
New York Yankees fans will find that a bit of a stretch, but there can be no debating two other points preambled by co-authors Glenn Stout and Dick Johnson.
For 100 seasons, they write, the Red Sox "have alternately frustrated, fascinated and occasionally completely exasperated their followers. But they have rarely engendered indifference." No dispute there.
And ...
"Red Sox fans are among the most loyal, passionate - even obsessive - in all sport." No argument here, either, although ...
