Few English villages can lay claim to four golf courses, but Wishaw, ten miles north of Birmingham, may well have more golf holes per head of population than anywhere else in the country.
The De Vere Belfry, the three-course golfing complex famous worldwide as the venue for Europe's historic 1985 Ryder Cup victory, and Wishaw Golf Club are a world apart. But in golfing terms they both have interesting water features that serve as a graveyard for many thousands of golf balls.
