At 7:06 p.m. Friday, Twins promising rookie Matt Kinney threw the first pitch of the game to Anaheim's Darin Erstad. Ball one. Ball two. Ball. Ball.
Scott Spiezio doubled. Mo Vaughn singled. By 7:10, the Angels led 1-0.
Kinney threw a wild pitch. Tim Salmon homered. It was 4-0 and the rout was on. Anaheim blasted the Twins 16-5 as the Twins gave up season highs in runs and hits (21).
"It's not the first time I've had a bad outing and it won't be the last," Kinney said. "The thing that disappoints me is that you don't want to put your team in a hole in the first inning."
