Tomorrow night the Madison City Council will vote on whether to amend the equal opportunities ordinance to make it more inclusive. Council members should vote in favor of the proposed changes. The safety and livelihood of many Madison residents, such as Karen, depend on it.
In the written testimony she has prepared for tomorrow's hearing, Karen, a transsexual, says, ``I wish I could tell you myself what I feel and think. I cannot do that because of the fear of discrimination. I live in constant fear of losing my livelihood, my family and my home because the current laws do not protect me.''
