CORRECTION: CLARIFICATION The Jewel Box, which is closing after 50 years in business, has operated on Granby Street in downtown Norfolk for about 35 years. Before that, it was on Church Street. A story on the cover of Tuesday's Business section said the store has been in downtown Norfolk for 50 years. Correction published Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, page A2.

After 50 years in downtown Norfolk, The Jewel Box plans to close.
Ronda Bazar, whose parents opened the business in 1950, attributed the closing and a drop in sales to construction on nearby properties, such as the Federal Building and the Hawthorn Hotel and Suites.
