Memphis International Airport (MEM) will open its new two-mile-long World Runway(TM) at 10 a.m. CDT Friday, September 22, 2000, with an inaugural ceremony.

The $110-million runway will permit fully loaded, wide-bodied air cargo and passenger planes to fly nonstop to most of the developed world, according to Larry Cox, President and CEO of the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority.
