Cheju is fast becoming known as an island of ``peace'' amid a series of inter-Korean talks soon to be held there.
Most recently, a North Korean delegation led by Kim Yong-sun, a secretary of the Workers' Party, visited Korea's most southern island for talks with South Korean counterparts led by National Intelligence Service (NIS) director Lim Dong-won, a special envoy of President Kim Dae-jung, on Sept. 12-13.
Kim's delegation is believed to have toured the scenic island as a preliminary inspection for North Korean leader Kim Jong-il's visit to South Korea slated for next spring. Cheju is expected to be the venue for the landmark event.
