Anyone who regularly has three alcoholic drinks a day should check with a doctor before taking aspirin, Tylenol or any other over-the-counter painkiller, the Food and Drug Administration said.
The FDA said yesterday it wants to put that warning on every bottle of non-prescription pain pills, citing risks of stomach bleeding or liver damage.
``Consumption of excessive alcohol while taking pain relievers can be dangerous to your health,'' warned Dr. Michael Friedman, FDA's acting commissioner.
The warnings aren't law yet: Drug makers and the public have 75 days to comment, and the FDA will consider the responses before making a final decision.
