During a late-night drive in the desert last year, softball player Dot Richardson decided she wanted one more crack at the Olympics before she retired. She got her wish, but things didn't work out as she imagined Tuesday.
Richardson, playing at second base, committed two errors in the 11th inning of the United States' 2-1 loss to Japan on Tuesday. That ended a 112-game winning streak for the Americans and dropped them to 2-1 in the Olympic tournament. Richardson, 38, threw past first base and mishandled a throw, leading to both of Japan's runs.
