SYDNEY, Australia _ Michael Bennett was all dressed up with no one to punch. It was time for the heavyweight gold medal fight in the 1999 World Boxing Championships in Houston.
Bennett was eager to show what he could do against Cuba's Felix Savon, perhaps the best amateur fighter in the world. Bennett had studied Savon's style. He had prepared himself physically and mentally.
Suddenly, there went Savon _ out of the ring, out of town, out of the country with the rest of his team. The Cubans, outraged over what they considered to be biased judging, walked away in protest. Bennett won the gold, but it was a hollow victory.
