DETROIT _ Three weeks ago, the Chicago Bears were supposed to have a sharp-toothed offense that could knock opponents silly with split-second bombs, sort of like Mike Tyson in his prime. Three losses later _ and a combined seven points in two weeks _ the Bears' scoring game has been replaced by a waiting game.
The Bears are scoring even fewer points than the punchless Lions, their opponent Sunday at Soldier Field. Chicago is 29th in the NFL in points, averaging 11.3 a game, and the Lions are 28th at 13.0.
But Bears coach Dick Jauron, a former Lions defensive back, is preaching patience. He's probably doing the same thing he has for two weeks _ checking ...
