The latest attempt to jump-start a controversial jetties project at Oregon Inlet was brushed aside by Congress in about 30 seconds.
In a letter this month, Gov. Jim Hunt asked that lawmakers add a provision to a spending bill that would transfer land needed to build the jetties to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, a federal agency that supports the project.
Commercial fishermen say the stone jetties are needed to ensure safe passage through the fragile inlet between the Atlantic Ocean and Pamlico Sound.
