WESTWOOD - The date of September 23 always has carried a special meaning for both the Marciano and Colombo families.
Forty-eight years to the day that Brockton's Rocky Marciano defeated Jersey Joe Wolcott for the heavyweight championship of the world, another Brockton legend made his mark on the sports season.
Brockton High football coach Armond Colombo earned his 300th victory as the No. 2 Boxers defeated sixth-ranked Xaverian, 17-7, yesterday at the Hawk Bowl. As the final seconds ticked down, Colombo raised both arms to the skies in thanks, but one could sense there was more to the pose.
