"The Art of Weightlessness" at Copley Theatre, Boston, Friday and Saturday.
Every ballet company has its ballet master, the person responsible for rehearsing, assigning roles and training dancers. Choreographer and dancer Bill Shannon, however, serves his company as "Crutchmaster." The 30-year-old uses crutches and a skateboard as mobility aids, and is the driving force behind a unique collective of DJs and dancers.
Shannon's company opened Dance Umbrella's season Friday with a stunningly original work, "The Art of Weightlessness," to a fervent and nearly sold-out house at Boston's Copley Theatre.
