A federal agency has ruled that a former school division employee's contract was terminated because she had pushed for higher minority enrollment in the gifted education program.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission report, which Beach school officials dispute, states that Cheryl A. Peters ``was retaliated against in violation'' of the Civil Rights Act when school officials decided not to renew her contract last year.
School officials responded Monday with a letter saying that the division is in ``total disagreement with the commission's finding.'' They say Peters was fired for poor job performance, and dispute her claim that she spoke out in ...
