High-ranking government officials may face severe punishment if they are found to have made profits from unfair or illegal stock investment using undisclosed corporate information.
An official at the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs said that a considerable number of public servants holding deputy minister or higher posts and lawmakers reportedly have earned huge amounts of money in stock trading last year when a list of property change was unveiled.
An official said, ``Some are suspected of having made profits in an illegal or unfair manner as public servants.''
