CHINJOP, Kyonggi-do--The death of Ven. Sonchol in 1992 hit the headlines of vernacular newspapers all across the country. The funeral of the supreme patriarch of the Chogye Buddhists Order was a significant event even outside the Buddhist community.
He left bodily remains called ``sari,'' along with the abstruse but well-known words:``Mountain is a mountain and river is a river.''
In contrast, the death of Ven. Ungyong, a country priest from Pongson-sa Temple here, was belatedly known to people with obituaries carried on daily papers days after his demise.
