Reader-drivers, have you ever noticed those white lines on the road in front of pedestrian crossings and traffic lights? No? I didn't think so. Well, please pull over while I share some thoughts.
A few days ago I was stopped at a pedestrian crossing. I'm in the middle of three lanes, and, being British, am stopped correctly behind the white line, which, I assure you, was there.
On either side of me are two vernacular drivers. One is driving a bus. (I bet you know what's coming next.) Yes, both are creeping over the line until they're in the middle of the pedestrian crossing and are forced, by the appearance of walking people, to stop.
