As part of its election pledge, the ruling Millennium Democratic Party (MDP) announced yesterday that it would make Cheju Island an international and economic free zone where visitor visas are not required and various tax benefits are available.
Under the plan, a new airport will be built on the island and port facilities will be expanded to accommodate over 80,000-ton cruise ships.
The MDP unveiled the election pledges for the scenic island during a meeting presided over by chief campaign manager Rhee In-je at Cheju City.
